Put simply, Plural Eyes syncs up your rushes for you: you can use it to sync up mulitple cameras or sync a main camera to audio which has been recoded separately. Using the camera mic. as a guide track you can sync up wild sound to picture much easier than it ever was in the days in Nagras and mag-tape.

Chinese New Year

"Gong xi, gong xi" (yay, congrats) as my Taiwan-born friend wrote me. Michael Wiese Productions, my publisher, has informed me that, after months of negotiating, Film Editing: Great Cuts Every Filmmaker and Movie Lover Must Know will be translated into Mandarin. In the next 12-18 months I will have the translation in my hot little hands.

Wireless SATA interface aims to topple USB

USB has become the I/O method of choice for most users, thanks to the many creative ways it has been adapted (and it has become a terrifying security risk for network managers thanks to the creative way it has been used in threats like the Stuxnet worm). At CES the USB-IF organisation will demo an incredibly large number of new manufacturers who have rolled out SuperSpeed USB applications and devices since the specification was launched about a year ago at the 2010 CES. Digital Vision Acquires Image Systems

Post production solution provider Digital Vision has entered into an agreement to buy Image Systems, a specialist provider of image processing and motion analysis, in a cash and stock deal valued at approximately $7.2m. The $7.2m purchase price represents a multiple of 1.22x Image Systems revenue of approximately $5.9m. Digital Vision is funding the deal with about $3.6m in cash, with the balance being comprised of 344 million new shares of stock, also valued at around $3.6m.

The acquisition increases Digital Vision's stronghold in the post production and restoration markets while creating new opportunities for growth with complementary products, distribution and vertical markets currently serviced by Image Systems. The acquisition is subject to approval at an additional shareholder meeting.

Colorista 2: Feel the POWER!

When I first started color correcting in FCP I used the built in 3-way color corrector. When it first was introduced in FCP 3, it is what first drew me to FCP. And I have been able to do quite a bit with it. But when Magic Bullet Colorista by Red Giant Software came out, and I was able to push the colors further than the 3-way...take things more to the extreme. And lately, while I have been glued to COLOR, there are many instances...
