HOLLYWOOD — The Motion Picture Sound Editors (mpse.org) presented their 66th MPSE Annual Golden Reel Awards at a black-tie ceremony at the Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles on February 17th. Golden Reel Awards recognizing outstanding achievement in sound editing were presented in 23 categories encompassing feature films, long-form and short-form television, animation, documentaries, games, special venue and other media.

Blackmagic Design announced today that it has formed a strategic partnership with the USC School of Cinematic Arts to provide Blackmagic hardware and software to the School over three years. The products will be used by USC students studying filmmaking and post-production, while broadcast production students will now have the opportunity to work with UltraHD in the school’s television station, Trojan Vision.

Before we get to the list, let’s acknowledge the elephant in the room. Film Riot, Peter McKinnon, and . . . I guess . . . Philip Bloom(?) are nowhere on this list. Yes, they all have big, creative, popular YouTube channels. But while they have millions of subscribers, this list is about some of the smaller channels that are just as good — if not better. So, without further ado, here are my personal favorite channels of 2019.
