We haven’t seen a new version of Final Cut Pro in over two years, and with Apple hiring new UI engineers not so long ago, rumors of a new version have cropped up repeatedly. Apple apparently showed off the new version recently and impressed some people. Mac Rumors breaks the news, here. And Larry Jordan mentions in on his blog, here.

Philip Hodgetts points to two reputable sources confirming that Apple is set to release a new version of Final Cut Pro this year. One of the sources is Larry Jordan, an FCP guru and industry icon who claims he was shown the new version of FCP at Cupertino. There are no details being shared at this time, except that it is reportedly an exciting release. We’ll see what comes at NAB.

By now you will have heard of, or read, either the Final Cut Pro rumor at Techcruch, or over at Larry Jordan’s Blog. Techcruch generally has good information, and I seriously doubt that Larry’s post would have been done without a specific OK from Apple – that’s just his style. Both say in one way or another:

The Foundry is best known for high-end compositing tools like Nuke, but they’re set to release their latest application, Storm, on March 1st. Storm is a much-needed low-cost "RED Production Hub," which will retail for the very reasonable price of $375 — reasonable considering it’s not only designed to help log and process the .R3D camera originals, but it’s also meant to be a post-production solution that will take RED-based edits all the way through final color correction to delivery.
