In case you ever wondered how a 1-hour TV drama gets cut, here’s a time lapse video of a typical 14-day schedule, starting with the first day of dailies. It shows the editor progressing through the editor’s cut, the director’s cut, adding sound and music, and finishing with the network cut.

I got my hands on an AJA IO Express and so far I am loving it. As I have explained before, I decided to go with a the 17 inch MacBook Pro for my home editing system because I usually work in other offices where Mac Pros are provided. The AJA IO Express is a great upgrade for my system. It’s takes it up a step or two in terms of making me feel like I have a complete system on the go or in the office. London-based YoYotta will introduce YoDailies, a new system for creating review reels at NAB 2011 in Las Vegas, April 11-14. YoDailies is a new system for generating dailies with timecode burn-ins and audio syncing for multiple deliverable formats. YoDailies works with digitally acquired source material, as well as scanned film footage. The new application is designed for use both on set and during postproduction.

One thing that used to drive me crazy was when a client asked me if I could pull a video off the internet. The short answer I always gave was....."sort of"......or "it depends on what type of video". Well, I don’t say that anymore. With this absolutely free plug-in for both Mac and Windows, this once annoying "problem" now becomes a piece of cake.
