Over 20 years ago Avid began with a shift away from linear purpose-built hardware by harnessing the power of non-linear software, running (eventually, as they increased in power) on commodity workstations. Today, the network--extending beyond the local network to the internet--is the platform ready to be harnessed.

Cutting 3D is a boon to editors because they get to participate more in the creating of the whole picture - its look, characters, their lines and the story - over a longer period, beginning with storyboarding in pre-production.

A recent email blast for a new Sony camcorder loudly proclaims: "A new year. A new format." It sometimes feels that way, doesn't it? For prosumer video camera codecs, the current "belle of the ball" is AVCHD (Advanced Video Codec High Definition) in all its many flavors.

Like everyone else, I’ve viewed more 3D movies in the past few months than I’ve seen in years. Afterwards I’ve wondered two things: 1) Is 3D a money-making fad or here to stay? 2) How exactly is 3D edited?

Easter 2010 has come and gone. Christians all over the world spent last weekend celebrating Jesus dying on the cross and coming back three days later by hunting for Easter eggs (and hopefully not forgetting to go to church in the meantime). But Christian or not, movies about Jesus appeal to many, and regardless of whether you believe in him as a man or the son of God (or even if you don’t believe he existed at all) his story is still a great story to adapt to film.
