As you are aware by now, we’re going through our book Creating Motion Graphics with After Effects 5th Edition ("CMG5" for short) and pulling out a few "hidden gems" from each chapter. These will include both essential tips for new users, as well as timesaving gems that experienced users may not be aware existed.

This will be my 14th consecutive NAB, starting in 1998 when I travelled from Australia for the conference. (And again in 1999 and 2000 before moving to the US in 2001.) Needless to say, I find it worthwhile both professionally and socially.

The next meeting of the Los Angeles Final Cut Pro User Group (lafcpug) will be Wednesday, March 23, 2011 beginning at 6:45PM at the Gallery Theater in Hollywood California. Scheduled to appear on the agenda will be Academy Award winning film editor Alan Heim. Alan will speak about his extraordinary career, the craft of editing, show clips from some of some of his movies and take questions from the audience.

Apple’s sneak peak of Final Cut 8 has encouraged people to start thinking about their wish lists: 64-bit, more native formats, background rendering, export to YouTube and many other ideas have been floated. That’s all great, but what I want is a new interaction model.
