The American Cinema Editors announced the winners of their annual ACE Eddie Awards tonight in Los Angeles. David Fincher’s "The Social Network" took top honors in the drama category, with its team of Kirk Baxter and Angus Wall topping the likes of "The King’s Speech" and "The Fighter." Other major winners included "Exit Through The Gift Shop" and "Alice in Wonderland" in the documentary and comedy/musical categories, respectively.

The power of modern desktop editing solutions is often in the aggregate of the parts and not just the core editing application. Apple Final Cut Studio and Adobe CS5 Production Premium (or Master Collection) are certainly recognized as software suites, but this is also true of Avid Media Composer, especially when you add the Production Studio bundle of third party software.

These past few months, it's been all about the Alexa. Now that there's a healthy amount of them in the rental market, they're popping up all over the place. I can't speak for other people but for me, all of the jobs that would have been RED three months ago are now Alexa. What happened?

A great Reader Quicktip came over the other day from Rob Wilson. It’s a nice tip for doing a little surgery in your Avid Media Files folder that can help with organization and being able to identify the media files that goes with a particular project. After the initial "shock therapy", the rest of the evening was devoted to a milder approach, a "brainwashing", Manchurian Candidate style, of images and cuts that made sense and yet didn't have to spell out each emotion you were supposed to feel by spoonfeeding you each reaction shot!
