While Alfonso Cuarón's "Gravity" is undoubtedly one of this year's best pictures, it also marks a technical achievement never before seen in film. Rising Sun Pictures (RSP), the visual effects company that produced some effects for the film, decided to breakdown one of the movie's more spectacular sequences in a two minute video.

Autodesk’s Steven Roselle offers a look at a few of Maya’s Bonus Tools that are extremely useful for visibility and display information. Interestingly enough, some of these tools go back to 2012, so these are not really new tools in the Bonus Tools suite, which was a surprise to me as a couple of them I have not even heard of.

Australian visual effects house Rising Sun Pictures has posted the following two-minute breakdown of how they achieved the final visual effects shots for Gravity as the Tiangong space station reenters Earth's atmosphere. The 3D sequence spans 17 shots and two and a half minutes of screen time, following the spacecraft as it dives through the atmosphere, colliding with debris and breaking apart, before parachutes slow its fall.
