Mac users prepare to usher in a new generation of connectivity via Thunderbolt or dabble in USB 3.0 via third-party cards. PC vendors add USB 3.0 ports. Still, the majority of users are currently relying on storage connectivity via FireWire, USB 2.0 or eSATA. Furthermore, the ever-decreasing cost of storage, the ever-increasing need for capacity brought about by solid-state workflows and the demand for ever-increasing throughput due to higher-data-rate video formats make RAID a necessity.

Thelma Schoonmaker has given some lectures to mark the restoration of the film "Peeping Tom" (1960), directed by her husband Michael Powell. Schoonmaker and Scorsese raised funds to restore the films of Powell and Pressburger. (In Spanish)

Years ago I became fascinated with the subtle underscore and nuance you could add to a scene simply by your shot composition. I know most of this is pretty straightforward, but I wanted to take some time to lay out a few basics of visual language as it applies to shot composition and lens choice.

As you remember Apple showed the updated version of FCP for the first time at the Supermeet event, which took place during the National Association of Broadcasters event in Las Vegas in April. The company also revealed there the USD299 price tag and that the suite would be released probably this month.

You have a project that required just Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Encore to make a DVD. It's all set up with menus and buttons that match up with the Premiere Pro chapter markers, etc. and it works fine. But the client wants some changes... more sophisticated color grading, and motion graphics for the lower thirds. So, you open up this Premiere Pro project in After Effects and go to work. So far, so good.

Wild(child) Editorial principal Yvette Pineyro recently cut 'Play,' a film noir-style spot featuring Justin Timberlake in a romantic melange of intrigue and stunning imagery heralding the launch of Givenchy's new fragrance. The award-winning editor, who recently received a nod from the AICE in the fashion/beauty category for the :30 global spot, collaborated with famed feature film director Pierre Morel, who shot the footage in Paris for Anton and Partners/NY.
