Apple launched into February with an eagerly awaited free update to Final Cut Pro X. Apple uses the Mac OS X numbering scheme, so the official update is 10.0.3, which would be equivalent to a version 1.3 release in other products.

A number of Apple's online stores have begun selling 4K monitors made by Sharp, it was revealed on Friday. A 32-inch version of Sharp's PN-K321 monitor showed up at Apple's UK online store recently, retailing for £3,499. The move likely signals the impending availability of Apple's new, redesigned Mac Pro.

With all the talk of what “is” or perhaps “isn’t” Sound Design, I think that largely we forget to recognize that ALL of the sound that is in a film, Television program, or interactive experience is “Sound Design”. Added a new material and accompanying tutorial called Dirty Rusty Decaled Painted Worn Metal. This is the same material I showed off at this year's CAVE conference / Autodesk University 2013, and it's the main material I use to shade anything that's metallic, painted and grungy (ie, almost all of my stuff), and it's all ready to be applied to your models. If you need a robot, a weapon, a guy in power armor, construction equipment, etc, and you want give it high quality texturing without the need to set up UVs, this is the material for you (Currently Max/Vray only).

Aframe's cloud video production platform helped Timeline TV in Manchester's Media City to expedite production for the second series of BBC Three’s zombie drama In the Flesh. Within the Avid-centric workflow Aframe eliminated a transcoding step, helped Timeline TV make rushes ready for the edit, and make viewing copies available to clients and executives in less than five hours, instead of the usual 35 hours.

From The Senate, the VFX breakdown of Joe Johnston’s (2011) “Captain America: The First Avenger.” “Captain America: The First Avenger" was based on the Marvel Comics character Captain America. It was the fifth installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film was directed by Joe Johnston, written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. The film became a critical and commercial success, grossing a total of $370 million worldwide. A sequel titled "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" is set for release in 2014.
