There’s a forum topic over at Reduser.net that I’ve been following for quite a while. It’s called new Jamfuze info new Jamfuze info and is a discussion about a Macintosh software product, written by a user, that works to process RED .R3D media into mfx files for direct importing into Avid Media Composer. That thread eventually moved into a discussion of a similar product that might include processing of Canon 7D (and I assume 5D, 1D, Rebel T2i) footage as well. What might become 7Dfuze was born.

A motion effect changes the size, shape, opacity, duration, position of your video, image, text or graphic in your projects. Motions effects are relatively easy in most Non-Linear Editors. I’m not going to discuss the how of motion effects. Instead I’m going to focus on why I did certain motion effects in this story. My Avid Media Composer software has for years come with the visual effects plug-ins from Boris FX, the suite called Boris Continuum Complete (BCC). Boris is a software plug-in for Media Composer (and other platforms such as After Effects).

Final Cut Pro, like most software developed originally for OS 9, is build on a type of code called (for short) Carbon. The Carbon APIs (Application Programming Interface – the building blocks of code) allowed Final Cut Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator, Media Composer and thousands of other applications to make the transition for OS 9 to OS X "reasonably painlessly".
