  • Lo/Hi Rez Conform, 7D and Avid?

Lo/Hi Rez Conform, 7D and Avid?

    March 7, 2010, 11:47 am
There’s a forum topic over at Reduser.net that I’ve been following for quite a while. It’s called new Jamfuze info new Jamfuze info and is a discussion about a Macintosh software product, written by a user, that works to process RED .R3D media into mfx files for direct importing into Avid Media Composer. That thread eventually moved into a discussion of a similar product that might include processing of Canon 7D (and I assume 5D, 1D, Rebel T2i) footage as well. What might become 7Dfuze was born.

      Letterman’s Technical Maintenance Minute

      January 6, 2010, 7:28 am
The Late Show with David Letterman has started a segment called the Technical Maintenance Minute. The 1/5/10 segment was about Avid and for us Avid geeks it was great. Sorry the quality sucks as I grabbed it with my iPhone as the segment went by. I need to figure out how to pull good video off the Comcast DVR ... so crank it up:

Fairy Tale and Reasons not to Cut

It’s much more important to learn what not to cut. That’s the hardest thing for any young editor starting out; it was for me.

      Safe Action in the Cut

I recently worked on a graphic card for a Star Trek DVD commercial and I thought it would be boring fun to talk about the Action Safe Area! Many graphics are broadcast in HD but there must also be an alternate version for people watching in standard definition.

With 2010 now firmly established on my calendar and (kinda) in my mind it’s time to turn my attention to the venerable concept of New Year’s Resolutions.

Matrox's Original MXO and Dreamcolor interface

      January 5, 2010, 7:24 am
Many of our ProVideo Coalition readers already know that Matrox’s MXO2 family now includes four members, especially since I have covered them quite recently in my Direct DreamColor interfaces article. However, fewer of our readers may remember the original MXO device from Matrox, which is quite different from the MXO2 family members.

Analysis of a Scene: Dead Ringers

      January 5, 2010, 7:23 am
I recently watched "Dead Ringers" for the first time in about 20 years and finally connected to a film that had left me cold back in 1988. This was the first film directed by David Cronenberg after one of his rare box office hits "The Fly". Cronenberg is an interesting director, as his films often create unsettling moods, though he usually relies on almost unstylish medium shots and close-ups as coverage for his scenes.

      MM Interview with Chris Lebenzon

      January 5, 2010, 7:22 am
Editor Chris Lebenzon got his start in motion pictures in the late 1970s, when he started fooling around on the KEM machine that his roommate, Michael Wadleigh, had used to cut Woodstock. Though he worked steadily on a number of small independent films at that time (most of which still have never been seen by audiences), Lebenzon's first big break came when editor Richard Chew brought him on board as an assistant editor on Wadleigh's Wolfen in 1981. For the past two decades, Lebenzon has been...
