      Learn from the Best

      May 25, 2010, 4:56 pm
The 2010 EditFest NY, presented by American Cinema Editors (ACE) and the Manhattan Edit Workshop, will give editors and those interested in editing the chance to learn from some of the best editors currently in the business, including the editors of Avatar, Precious and the Pirates of the Caribbean series—all of whom will be on hand to talk about their process and interact with attendees. Five Questions with Editor Hal Honigsberg

      May 25, 2010, 4:56 pm
Founder/editor Hal Honigsberg’s output at chrome in Santa Monica, CA, runs the gamut from slick spots like high-end car commercials or a Jake Scott :60 featuring Visa’s relationship as a worldwide partner for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, to a music video that was recently installed as part of an exhibit at the Tate Modern.

      Just Enough Effects

      May 25, 2010, 4:55 pm
The latest Extreme Kellie was a fun piece to edit. I thought I would do another anatomy of an edit. Take you threw the edit as I went. The first I thing I did was find music. I chose two songs. The first one in the piece is O.N.E by Yeasayer.

Dede Allen, A.C.E., was fondly remembered at memorial services held in Los Angeles and New York on May 16. On both coasts, friends, colleagues and family members viewed clips of films that Allen edited and shared stories and tributes to their friend, mentor and champion.

      War Film Victory at Oscars

      May 25, 2010, 4:54 pm
For nine weeks, Chris Innis was embedded with director Kathryn Bigelow and the crew on the Jordanian locations of The Hurt Locker. "Just from the standpoint of shooting on location in the Middle East, this was a very difficult film to do," she says. "It was very trying for everybody." Innis was in Jordan because Murawski, originally hired by Bigelow, was exhausted from three years working on Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man series, and could not make the overseas commitment.

Story of Editing Workshop for Jordanian Students

      May 25, 2010, 4:53 pm
The lights went up. The audience of eager editing students didn’t seem to know whether to weep or applaud. So they did both. In a few short hours, one of them, Mohammed Suliman, had taken several minutes of raw footage documenting a disabled shopkeeper and found the story of the local merchant’s...

1st Video Bringing Another Editing App

      May 24, 2010, 4:51 pm
There’s another entry into the iPhone video editing app category that has just hit the iTunes app store in the last day or so. VeriCorder Technology’s 1st Video (which I previewed here thanks to HandHeld Hollywood just after NAB) aims to one up the previous king of iPhone video editors, ReelDirector, by providing a bit more functionality and moving it beyond a novelty or a toy.
