Blackmagic Design Inc today announced a new software update for Blackmagic UltraScope, the world’s first 3Gb/s SDI and optical fiber waveform monitor. This latest update adds a new customizable "2-up" view, greater support for different monitor sizes and a super high resolution zoom of Parade, Waveform, Vectorscope and Picture displays.

The first reason for editing was longer films. The next idea was lets put these images together and tell a story. You’re a storyteller. It doesn’t matter if you are editing a news package, a documentary, a film or an online feature using stills, It’s all storytelling. Putting the images together to try and tell a story is editing. It’s the beginning of editing, it’s also the middle and the end of editing. Every edit should be made for the story.

The ASE would like to congratulates its members who picked up awards. The Avid Award for Best Editing in An Australian Short Film went to Mark Burnett for GPS. GPS, tells the story of Thompson, a seven-year-old runt with a gift for direction,who has one dream in life - to be the voice of a GPS navigator. It was a real hit with the audience.

In my experience few productions – be they film or television – are well planned from a workflow perspective. It seems that people do what’s apparently cheapest, or what they have done in the past. This is both dangerous – because the production workflow hasn’t been tested – and inefficient.

When editing a documentary you very often find yourself using stock footage or photos. And in case you didn’t know it, stock footage and photos cost money to license for use in your projects. Sometimes they are inexpensive(say $5/second) and sometimes they are exorbitant ($60/sec with a 10 second minimum). Because you have a limited budget on your documentaries, it is up to the editor to keep track of how much stock footage they are using, and to use it responsibly...
