NAB 2012: Holographic Storage from hVault

    April 15, 2012, 3:28 pm
Looking to archive your video productions, maybe your storage needs are reaching massive amounts? It may sound "sci-fi" but hVault presents holographic storage as an option for archiving your video. The company is composed of archival experts and the new venture for maintaining your content is their first holographic library system. Think optical storage, but in 3D, so your flat CDs, DVDs and Blu-rays just grew into a whole lot more space for data storage.

Are 3D 'Acoustic Holograms' the Next Big Thing in

      July 28, 2014, 4:14 pm
About two years ago, we unearthed a cryptic pair of speakers from a company called Acoustic 3D that promised 3-dimensional “holographic” sound that envelops the listener. We signed up for a tester program back then, and promptly forgot about their existence. Today, we received an email noting that a pair of “the world’s first acoustic hologram generator(s)” are en route to our office and should arrive in August – which means, whether they can deliver on their claims or not, it’s time to take notice.

      Video Collaboration Tools: DaVinci Resolve

      July 28, 2014, 4:13 pm
Last Saturday morning, I had the pleasure of visiting Neil Smith, CEO of LumaForge and Marketing Manager, Kahlani Leon, for a presentation of some new video collaboration tools. Neil is not just another ordinary video reseller. He has a background in digital computing that spans decades, having sold the famous Cray computers to the US Government. As a major player within the industry since that time, Neil has a unique perspective on identifying trends, and has managed to assemble his own hardware which is extremely compatible and robust when it comes to hosting today's popular video editing software. Check out Neil's ZFS-based LumaZAN system and you will understand that this guy is serious when it comes to video collaboration tools and keeping costs down.

Design is everywhere, and not all designers reflect life in Mad Men. Here's our pick of the best design in situations that are ordinarily functional.

      July 28, 2014, 9:32 am
The ongoing convergence of the film and TV industries was a hot topic at April’s MipTV, particularly following Miramax’s announcement that they are to offer their theatrical back catalogue for TV adaptations.
