Avid just isn’t slowing down. I advised them that they just needed to slow down. But did they listen? Nope. Why slow down? Because just as soon as you get used to one version, another version comes along and has tons more features that you want.

It used to be very simple. If you wanted to be an editor, you first apprenticed, then became an assistant. NAB 2010 has come and gone, yet this year’s event seemed different to me on many levels. First, there seemed to be an anxious yet excited energy at this year’s show, and attendance was up from last year too. It’s like back to business––but what business is that? Things are changing so rapidly today that it seems impossible to keep up. Trying to keep up is the main reason I go each year. Here are my highlights from the show floor.

There are a number of effects that fall into the "grunge" or "distressed" category, including film grain, scratches and film defects, TV scanlines and light leaks. The last group is typically only available from stock footage houses as actual film clips, rather than as plug-in filter effects.
