Make Edit Change List in FCP

    May 3, 2010, 3:47 pm
Making an EDL is simple in Final Cut Pro, but making an edit change list has been a bit of a mystery to me, until recently. First off, the only way it’s even mentioned in FCP is within Cinema Tools.

      September 2, 2010, 1:24 pm
Inner-D is a new 3D stereo conversion studio that just completed its first job, Weinstein Company’s Piranha 3D. The studio (www.inner-d.com) managed the 35mm 2D-to-3D conversion process, as well as first pass color grading and finishing for the film. At press time, Inner-D was getting ready to move into space in North Hollywood, where founder Grant Boucher says they’ll be able to handled conversion on as many as four features at a time.

Interview with Editor Josh Bodnar Pt 2

      September 2, 2010, 12:59 pm
Since the last interview with Josh Bodnar close to a year ago we have kept in contact, during that time he has offered me valuable advice and insight into the industry. I am such a big fan of his work and his ideas that I wanted to take the opportunity and do a second interview in which we dive deeper into his creative realm.

I had the great pleasure of interviewing, Emmy Award winning editor, Josh Bodnar. He has helped produce such projects as, Emmy award-winning, title design sequence for Showtime’s "Dexter", and Emmy nominated title design sequence, "Kingdom Hospital". His work is also part of the New York Museum of Modern Art Permanent Collection.

      'Hung' Up on Cutting Comedy

      September 1, 2010, 10:15 pm
"Hung is much more edited like a little film," says editor Annette Davey. "It’s like doing a half-hour film every couple weeks. Hung is a lot more cinematic than other shows I’ve worked on because it tends to favor medium and cowboy shots." A cowboy is a medium shot composed with the actor’s belt buckle visible in the shot.

Can’t be more wrong than this. What makes it worse is that the offloads were done on a PC, and the drive is formatted, NOT Fat32, but NTFS...meaning that I can’t make changes...I can’t go in an FIX the names.

I probably have mentioned that we’re working on a documentary about Bob Muravez/Floyd Lippencotte Jnr in part because we wanted demo footage we "owned" (so we could make tutorials available down the line) but also because I wanted to try it in action on a practical job.

So it looks like DaVinci Resolve for Mac may be shipping soon. Blackmagic has posted a configuration guide (pdf link) so it must be getting close. Of course you’ll want your Mac freshly backed up before you install it.
