    Read Our Interview on SpliceVine

    June 7, 2012, 3:48 pm
We were recently interviewed by SpliceVine about how ScreenLight got started, the problems we are solving, and what makes us special. The interview also touches on our approach to marketing at NAB, how we go about prioritizing features, and some of the other cloud services that we think are useful for editors and production companies. It's an interesting read if I do say so myself :).

A Scorecard on Creative Cloud: How Well Is Adobe D

      November 12, 2013, 8:06 pm
Well, it has been just over a month since Adobe was hacked and I thought that things may have died down enough to take a broader look at how well Adobe has been doing since it started to transform its business model with the launch of Creative Cloud and its decision to stop offering perpetual licenses. Customer Adoption and Business Performance During its Q3 2013 conference call, Adobe shared some stats on the adoption of Creative Cloud. It currently has over 1 million paid creative clo...

      Protect Yourself From Nightmare Clients

      November 12, 2013, 8:03 pm
Yesterday I came across 2 posts about nightmare clients. The first, from ReelSEO, features a selection of quotes on video production from the site clients from hell. Check the source for all of them, but here are a couple of gems. The second post comes from StarWipe MyAss and features an editor being torn apart by the worst client imaginable. Everything is extremely personal, and none of the rant is about the specifics of the work. While both of these posts are pretty funny and a ...

Simple Backup and Archiving Techniques for Video E

      September 4, 2013, 10:39 am
With the prolific rise of cheap USB drives, we can store more projects than ever before. You can carry terabytes of storage around for around $100. With digital real estate being so cheap, why is it so difficult to backup and archive projects and media on a regular basis?

Growing Your Post Business: An Interview with Zeb

      August 29, 2013, 10:37 am
Running a growing production or post company is hard. As business starts to pick up, challenges like hiring the right people, deciding on the right pace of expansion, and keeping the pipeline full of the right jobs start to occupy more and more time. This week, I spoke with Zeb Chadfield about the approach he is taking to expanding The Finish Line, his London-based post production company that specializes in picture finishing, online editing and colour grading for broadcast television. What...

Colorist Juan Salvo's new reel really grabbed my attention. In fact, it's such a great marketing video that I thought I'd see if he would share his vision for the project and how he came up with such a novel approach.

A video editor needs an extensive library of footage, graphics, music, sound effects and more. There are many places on the Internet to acquire these elements. Below is a list of paid and free resources that I use. Hopefully they are of help to you. If there are any others that you would recommend, add them to the comments below!

Color correction is a simple way to dramatically improve the quality of your video. You can create mood, enhance a poorly lit shot and color balance right inside Avid Media Composer using Color Correction Mode and its Color Correction Tool.

At some point you've probably looked for a way to get huge files from point A to point B. When you think of your dream file transfer solution, words like unlimited, fast, secure, reliable, and free probably come to mind.

Making The Jump to running a post house

I'm starting a series of interviews, with people running production and post companies. I want to speak with everyone from people running a video department of one, to people managing large businesses that have rigorous processes for moving productions along.

Preditor. It stands for producer + editor. It was the hot buzzword when I was in college attending the NAB conference in 2009. Preditor is no longer a buzzword or a trend; it is the new normal of the video industry in 2013.
