We are pleased to finally launch our redesign, which has been in production for the last six months. Working from initial UX designs by friend of the site Sabih Mir, the team at New Zealand-based design studio Cactuslab has done an outstanding job in all areas, producing a site better than anything we could have possibly imagined. Our sincere thanks go out to Matthew Buchanan, Karl von Randow, Mike Harding, Ryan Maxwell and the rest of the Cactuslab team.

With this year’s round of Oscar campaigning finally over and the ballots all in, members of the film scoring community got to take a long, congratulatory breather with a celebratory concert at the Walt Disney Concert Hall on Wednesday night. Presented by the Academy, the Oscar Concert offered a stirring evening of music from the Los Angeles Philharmonic, featuring suites from each of this year’s five Oscar nominated original scores, most conducted by the composers themselves.

The 90th annual Academy Awards return March 4 — one year after an incorrectly announced best picture winner dominated post-show headlines. But this Oscars ceremony is significant not just for last year's slip-up: With the strong presence of African-American-created films like Get Out and Mudbound, it is also a year of firsts.

Vashi Nedomansky edited the film “6 Below: Miracle on the Mountain” which is the first feature film edited natively in 6K resolution. While visiting Sundance 2018, I had a chance to sit down with Vashi and talk through the creative and technical challenges of post-production on this film.

Phil Holland, probably the biggest exponent of 8K video production at the moment, has written that he has tried 8K playback on the new 70” Sharp Aquos 8K TV and seen an improvement over 4K. He’s in a very good position to do this because he makes his own 8K content, including aerial footage of New York that was shot in 3x 8K resolution and actually downsampled to 8K.

Filmmaking is thought of primarily as a visual medium, but sound and audio play a pivotal role in truly bringing those visuals to life. If you're an editor, you most likely understand the frustrations of trying to work with both of these components simultaneously in a way that is not only efficient but effective at giving you more room to create. Adobe addresses this in a big way by integrating the powerful controls of Audition, its flagship digital audio workstation, right into Premiere Pro with the Essential Sound Panel, making robust, professional features accessible to users new to audio workflows.
