While news from the exhibition floor of SIGGRAPH was a little ho-hum, there were a number of excellent panels and presentations upstairs at the convention. One of the most popular was a full day on stereo 3D and how filmmakers are trying to move away from stereo as a gimmick towards it being a true cinema language, just like color and sound. Representatives from Sony, Pixar and Dreamworks discussed the present challenges and strategies, as well as the future of 3D as a medium.

In early August, the American Cinema Editors (ACE) held its second annual EditFest Los Angeles at the Universal Studiuos lot in Universal City. From documentary to comedy and from to television to narrative features, this was a rare opportunity for people to hear editors discuss the art, craft, and process of editing. The Editor's Lounge in LA has announced another event. This one will have "Representatives and product managers from Apple will be on hand to demonstrate the tools as well as to answer any questions." (Post Magazine) It will take place this coming Friday.

Crimewatch Roadshow, a BBC production, hit the streets of the UK for a series of live shows in June 2009. From car crime and distraction burglary to shop lifting and arson, they looked at everyday crimes that can affect us all. The show featured CCTV appeals, Wanted Faces, interviews with experts, as well as tips on what to do if you are a victim and how to avoid becoming one in the first place.
