Fandev announces CuteDCP, a DCP (Digital Cinema Package) creation tool for After Effects. CuteDCP is an exporting (output module) plugin which allows users to create DCPs from any file imported into After Effects and reduces the number of steps creating a DCP to a minimum. CuteDCP has been tested on most major play-out servers.

In the past, if you wanted to share some portion of your work with another set of eyes, it was a somewhat time-consuming business of exporting a QuickTime file or transferring a sequence or a portion of a sequence to another drive or server for someone else to access. That's no longer the case.

In late July, Apple updated its Final Cut Studio package with improved versions of Final Cut Pro, Motion, Soundtrack Pro, Color and Compressor. Sadly, DVD Studio Pro has succumbed to the realm of "also included" and has not received any attention this time around. For this review, I will focus Final Cut Pro 7. Here’s why FCS 3 may be less expensive ($300 less) than previous versions... Apple requires an updated dongle. Ok, you’re saying, "there’s no dongle for Final Cut Studio," but there is.

Those of us who have been editing for a while, remember Avid becoming the "product we love and the company we hate," starting around the new millennium. With two aggressive leadership changes in the last few years, those days appear to be over. With the release of V.3.5 of Media Composer and Symphony, the revamped company is showing that it really cares what we think again.

The LAFCPUG has a new event coming up for November 18th in LA. The perception, (especially among FCP users) is that Final Cut Pro is slowly but surely taking over the post industry. While that maybe true in the "Indy" world, the reality is the Avid Media Composer is still firmly entrenched in Hollywood feature films and broadcast television. Michael Wohl worked for Adobe in the mid-1990's and was involved with Premiere in the days when Premiere was one of the only affordable video editors around. He then moved to Macromedia as part of the original team put together to produce Final Cut Pro. He is credited as being one of the original designers of Apple's Emmy award winning Final Cut Pro software.
