      Duck and Color

      November 27, 2009, 4:35 am
I have been doing a few tests lately. Going from Avid to FCP to Color. Because I am REALLY enjoying cutting with Avid again (well, the one home movie I am FINALLY getting to), but I REALLY like the color correcting tools of COLOR. And I have a color correction job coming up that was edited in Avid, and I would like to figure out how to get it into Color.

      Remap Your Keyboard

In this episode, I’ll show you how to remap your keyboard and give you a couple of ideas on what functions to map to it. If this does not make you at least 10% more productive, Avid Screencast will refund your money.

      Alphadogs Turn Threats into Opportunity

      November 26, 2009, 4:33 am
AlphaDogs is a multi-room facility that handles a lot of cable work, particularly reality programming. The studio is posting Project Runway and Models of the Runway, and recently handled color correction on a History channel special that looks at Lee Harvey Oswald assassin Jack Ruby. AlphaDogs has four Avid Symphony systems, two graphics room, two Pro Tools audio bays, an Apple Color room, three Final Cut Pro finishing rooms, and 10 rooms with a choice of FCP or Media Composer.

      Media Composer Review

      November 26, 2009, 4:33 am
Since last month’s comprehensive review of Media Composer V.3.5 by AlphaDogs’ Terrence Curren (see postmagazine.com) is still fresh, I’ll just touch on the newest features of 4.0, which are pretty significant.

AMWA Floats Workflows at SPMTE Conference

      November 26, 2009, 4:32 am
In recent years, the post-production process has seen a tremendous increase in the number and complexity of video formats being used, a long list that includes aspect ratios, compression ratios and frame rates. Individually, these choices address specific project needs or budgets. Collectively, they increase the demands on editorial to properly handle the material coming in, turning it over to other departments, and delivering a project according to spec and on schedule.

Behind the Scenes with Film Editor Walter Murch

      November 25, 2009, 4:31 am
An 8 Min interview with Walter Murch: In the world of filmmaking, actors and directors dominate the spotlight. The people who actually assemble the film frame by frame and beat by beat toil in relative obscurity. Walter Murch is one film editor whose profile is much higher than most.

      Avid Wish List Growl Notification

      November 25, 2009, 4:30 am
Directly from the Growl website: "Growl is a notification system for Mac OS X: it allows applications that support Growl to send you notifications." A windows version is also available from another development team. It's highly customizable, so you can have the notification display as a popup on your screen, or as an alert sent to your phone.

      Paper Cut and Avid's ScriptSync

      November 24, 2009, 4:29 am
I’m working on a promotional video, or maybe series of videos, for a local condominium complex and it presented itself as the perfect opportunity to try something I’d heard great things about: Avid’s ScriptSync.

MC4 plays nice with Snow Leopard

      November 24, 2009, 4:26 am
Avid released Media Composer version 4.0.4 this afternoon. The big news is that the new release is certified to work with Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6.2). The bad news is that Avid recommends a clean install of Snow Leopard, not an upgrade.
