A common theme at this years SIGGRAPH was how different studios are handling the unique demands of shows with ever increasing scope and complexity. BOURNEMOUTH, UK — Outpost (outpostvfx.co.uk) was the sole provider of VFX for the Wigwam Films/Neftlix project, iBoy, directed by Adam Randall and based on the Kevin Brooks novel. The film stars Bill Milner, Maisie Williams, Rory Kinnear and Miranda Richardson, and tells the story of 16-year-old Tom, who awakens from a coma to discover that fragments of his smartphone have embedded in his brain, giving him superhero powers.

ADELAIDE, SOUTH AUSTRALIA — Rising Sun Pictures (rsp.com.au) is expanding its visual effects educational program, operated in partnership with the University of South Australia. RSP will now offer a Graduate Certificate in Dynamic Effects and Lighting, modeled after its successful Graduate Certificate in Composting and Tracking. It is also adding to its menu of short courses covering 3D modeling, compositing and other subjects.

LOS ANGELES — Chaos Group (chaosgroup.com) has introduced V-Ray 3.5 for Nuke, a major update to the ray-traced renderer used on films such as Spectreand The Revenant. The new release offers support for volumetric rendering and deep compositing workflows have greatly expanded V-Ray for Nuke’s core capabilities, adding flexibility to film and TV productions.

Among the notable editors joining the Whitehouse London office is Patric Ryan, who arrives at the company after a decade at Marshall Street Editors.
