In my work as a video editor and as an instructor, I try to focus on the importance of storytelling over the importance of the tools. But it's hard. Good storytelling elements never change, whereas video editing tools change like the weather.

STUDIO CITY, CA — On February 17th, 2019, The Motion Picture Sound Editors (MPSE) will honor Antoine Fuqua with its annual Filmmaker Award. The director — known for his work on films such as The Equalizer (1 & 2), The Magnificent Seven, Southpaw and Training Day — is being recognized for his outstanding contributions to the art of cinema. HOLLYWOOD — Panavision’s creative services company Light Iron (lightiron.com) has added senior colorist Nicholas Hasson to its roster. EMERYVILLE, CA — The name Ed Catmull has been synonymous with computer graphics for decades. And it will continue to be so, even as he moves into retirement at the end of this year.
