    Nonfictionality

Although it has been only seven years since the first edition of A New History of Documentary Film, co-authored by the late Northwestern University film professor Jack C. Ellis and Betsy A. McLane, its newly published second edition firmly establishes itself as the most thorough overview of the evolution, achievement and future of the documentary film to date.

      Eps. 103 - Forced Exile

Welcome to Episode 103! This Episode is actually about why I left Los Angeles and moved to a city with no VFX industry. I knew nobody here, and I’ve spent all of my savings and did everything I could possibly do...

What’s the Difference Between Adobe CC 2018 vs.

      October 30, 2017, 1:27 pm
One of the most common upgrade questions we see out there is asking what’s new, what’s different, what’s better, what’s changed between Adobe’s just-launched CC 2018 release and the previous CC 2017, CC 2015.5, CC 2015, CC 2014, CC 2013, or 2012’s Creative Suite 6? Or more fundamentally, what are the key new features and advancements in CC 2018 versus prior versions?

      Latest Avid Release dropped today

      October 30, 2017, 1:27 pm
I used to know everything about Media Composer. I had taken RTFM to heart and had literally read every page of every document (editing, effects, workflow, color grading) and even tech checked much of it. Avid even sent me a “Junior Tech Pubs Sheriff’s Badge.” (So somebody with a sense of humor must have been sick of the many corrections I sent in.)

Let's Edit with MC - What's New in 8.9.3 by Kevin

These updates are always a bit of a treat. What I mean by that is that normally when a point point update comes out, it’s normally bug fixes only. Well, this point point version release of Media Composer actually has some pretty cool new features in it, some of which are simple work flow enhancements (moving clips up and down tracks), and some are essential work flow updates (Relinking across Frame Rates). All of this, plus support for 10.13, High Sierra, makes this an update that Media Composer editors will definitely want to check out.

FCPX Gets Massive Overhaul with VR, Color Controls

      October 30, 2017, 1:27 pm
At last week's FCPX Creative Summit, Apple unveiled Final Cut Pro X's 10.4 update, which looks to be a pretty massive overhaul of the layout and functionality of the company's flagship NLE. Despite the addition of Touch Bar support getting the prime spot in the announcement, other features like new color wheels and RGB and hue/saturation curves, redesigned flat interface, and extensive VR support are some of the most exciting (and requested) upgrades from the previous version. Let's take a look at the highlights.

Blackmagic's ATEM Television Studio HD Pro Review

      October 30, 2017, 4:23 am
I sat in my office and stared at the brown cardboard box holding Blackmagic’s new ATEM Television Studio Pro HD switcher. How was I going to test and review this new switcher? My calendar just did not have a Multicam opportunity scheduled.

LAIKA Museum Exhibition Trailer, Images Put Stop-M

      October 28, 2017, 12:47 pm
A few years ago, I hate the rare opportunity to visit Portland in order to pop into LAIKA studios and witness their incredible stop-motion animation magic, technology, and artistic skill. Now, the general public will be able to experience first-hand the majesty of LAIKA in a close and personal way. The Portland Art Museum and its Northwest Film Center celebrate “Animating Life: The Art, Science, and Wonder of LAIKA”, a groundbreaking view behind-the-curtain into the visionary artistry and technology of the globally renowned animation studio.
