In a review of Apple's Final Cut Pro X 10.0.3 in February, StudioDaily noted that "two nice things in the 10.0.1 update were the ability to apply a custom sequence starting timecode and XSAN support, which lets you support an XSAN volume for media and event storage." They concluded by stating that it didn't mean true collaborative editing was here yet but that it was a start. ADAM GARSTONE applauds how far Adobe has come with their premium editor but wonders if they arrived in too much of hurry and not taken care of some important basics. Tacitly, even Adobe admit that Premiere Pro used to be a bit 'pants'. Several versions ago, it didn't really do much, and just when you had found something it would do, it crashed. This week Apple won a patent that specifically details various collaborative media production processes. There's a lot of detail in the document too - could this be a hint of what is to come for Final Cut Pro X? The patent was awarded this week but was originally filed back in 2008. Final Cut Pro gets a mention, but so does Final Cut Express and quite remarkably iMovie which makes you think that FCPX wasn't on the radar at the time.

Today we get to go inside the head of Gordon Burkell. Gordon has worked in the film industry and as a film editor for 15 years. He started Art of the Guillotine in 2007 to help build a community for editors and to create a vehicle to help editors and film academics share their knowledge and expertise to improve the art form.
