Just a few days ago Philip Hodgetts posted an intriguing article over on his blog The present and future of post production business and technology. It was titled Why Apple should drop Log and Capture from FCP and has generated some interesting discussion in the comments afterward.

Recently Apple released Macbook Pro’s with a new chipset, the i7 and the i5. I recently purchased a 17" inch i7 Macbook Pro, and immediately was amazed at how much faster this i7 renders in comparison to my old Intel Core Duo 2.16Ghz.

A few weeks ago the Canadian Cinema Editors (C.C.E.) held another one of their film screenings. The film screened was District 9, followed by a question and answer period with Oscar Nominated Editor Julian Clarke C.C.E.

This week I was asked how to create a "graphic novel" look, such as was done in Scanner Darkly. Now I know there are many plugins for this look. I.e. Rotoshop for vector keyframe. However, for the production on a limited budget working with Photoshop provides similar results.

The new plug-in PuplFX Abstract by Aquafadas is a fantastic plug-in that has an awkward living space for microfilmmakers. Compact, well thought out and easy to use, this is one of those plug-ins that if your "day" job is dealing with any type of requirement demanding video slide shows, you'll buy Abstract for sure.

f you are lucky to have a client who want Blu-ray ... well congrats... even though you will run in a bunch of other problems – or lets – say issues... anyway. Web delivery is not that much of a problem... since web-based services like Vimeo or YouTube are supporting HD (720p or even 1080p).
