SAN RAFAEL, CA -- Autodesk (www.autodesk.com) has released Flame 20th Anniversary Edition, a redesign of its VFX software. The release was announced at the 2012 IBC show in Amsterdam in September and integrates visual effects, editorial and realtime color grading.

OAKLAND, CA — Visual effects studio Atomic Fiction has hired Marc Chu, who will lead the studio's animation efforts across its Oakland and Montreal locations. Chu joins Atomic Fiction from ILM, where he most recently served as animation director. He brings more than 20 years of experience animating and supervising the creation of everything from aliens and spaceships to pirates and superheroes.

BOURNEMOUTH, UK — Outpost VFX (outpostvfx.co.uk) delivered over 420 VFX shots for Johannes Roberts’ new intense survival film, 47 Meters Down. The studio served as the sole VFX vendor for the film, which was released on June 16th.

LOS ANGELES — PHD is a new collective headed up by visual effects veterans John Hughes (founder Rhythm and Hues), and Helena Packer, along with film/TV/commercial director Kevin Donovan. The company will act as a full service post production house working across the genres of VR/AR, independent films, documentaries, select TV projects, and commercials. They will also offers clients live action production services.

LOS ANGELES — At Cine Gear Expo 2017 at Paramount in Hollywood, Radiant Images (www.radiantimages.com) showed a number of its VR solutions as well as presented a 360 livestream of the event. Radiant Images is a provider of 2D, 360 and immersive technology solutions. At the show, they partnered with Nokia, Voysys, HEAR360 and Finwe to create and broadcast an enhanced 360 livestream.

LONDON — Framestore once again voyaged into space to team up with Ridley Scott on the highly anticipated science-fiction horror film Alien: Covenant. The 20th Century Fox film features 295 shots containing futuristic VFX work by the Framestore team. Their work included the build of the Covenant ship, its environment, as well as tackling the cult horror creatures the Facehugger and the Chestburster.

A former co-founder of AudioEngine and VP/audio post mixer at Photomag, Recker has worked on countless commercials, including those for clients such as McCann Erickson JWT, Ogilvy & Mather, BBDO, DDB, HBO, and Warner Books, to name a few.
