The 2011 skew is due in part to HPA's eligibility period, which begins Sept. 7, 2011 and cuts off at Sept. 10, 2012, leaving out a number of this year's below-the-line award contenders.

The Late Show with David Letterman has started a segment called the Technical Maintenance Minute. The 1/5/10 segment was about Avid and for us Avid geeks it was great. Sorry the quality sucks as I grabbed it with my iPhone as the segment went by. I need to figure out how to pull good video off the Comcast DVR ... so crank it up:

I recently worked on a graphic card for a Star Trek DVD commercial and I thought it would be boring fun to talk about the Action Safe Area! Many graphics are broadcast in HD but there must also be an alternate version for people watching in standard definition.

Many of our ProVideo Coalition readers already know that Matrox’s MXO2 family now includes four members, especially since I have covered them quite recently in my Direct DreamColor interfaces article. However, fewer of our readers may remember the original MXO device from Matrox, which is quite different from the MXO2 family members.

I recently watched "Dead Ringers" for the first time in about 20 years and finally connected to a film that had left me cold back in 1988. This was the first film directed by David Cronenberg after one of his rare box office hits "The Fly". Cronenberg is an interesting director, as his films often create unsettling moods, though he usually relies on almost unstylish medium shots and close-ups as coverage for his scenes.
