Earlier this year we reviewed OCZ's flagship Vertex 4 SSD which at the time we were lead to believe was based on a second-generation Everest controller developed in-house. Having acquired IP and assets from Solid Data in 2010 to expand OCZ's controller and interface portfolio, followed by the acquisition of Indilinx, maker of the renowned Barefoot SSD controller, OCZ was in a good position to start working on their own controllers.

The management team at Avid has spent a lot of time spreading a message about a new "openness" initiative at the company, and one of the first concrete embodiments of that philosophy is the decision to support customers' use of Final Cut Pro on Avid's Unity MediaNetwork and Isis shared-storage systems. So here I am on the bus heading back to Toronto and I have twelve hours to spare so I should recap what happened on Saturday. Unfortunately, Thelma Schoonmaker didn’t make it to the panel, which upset a lot of people. However, the ACE handled this well, they had everyone stay at the end of the day for Pizza and Beer. This gave the students and assistants there a chance to mingle and get their name out.
