    OCZ Vector 256GB SSD Review

    November 27, 2012, 3:02 pm
Earlier this year we reviewed OCZ's flagship Vertex 4 SSD which at the time we were lead to believe was based on a second-generation Everest controller developed in-house. Having acquired IP and assets from Solid Data in 2010 to expand OCZ's controller and interface portfolio, followed by the acquisition of Indilinx, maker of the renowned Barefoot SSD controller, OCZ was in a good position to start working on their own controllers.

'Sicario' Composer Jóhann Jóhannsson Dead at 48

      February 10, 2018, 7:27 pm
The last 24 hours have been miserable. Last night, David Simon took to Twitter to sadly announce that Reg E. Cathey, the astounding character actor known for key roles in TV (House of Cards, The Wire, Oz, Outcast, etc.) and film (Airheads, The Mask, American Psycho, Pootie Tang, etc.), had passed away after a battle with cancer at 60. And then this morning, the sense of loss was compounded with the news that Jóhann Jóhannsson, the ingenious musician and composer behind the wondrous scores for Sicario, Arrival, and The Theory of Everything, has also passed away due to unknown causes. Jóhannsson was only 48.

      Oscar's Fav. Editor

      February 10, 2018, 5:04 am
The 2018 Academy Award nominations for Best Achievement in Film Editing in 2017 focus on five distinctive approaches to movie storytelling, each with its own effective rhythms and emotional tones. Four of the honored films team their editors with directors who authored their own richly detailed screenplays and the fifth brings a deeper dimension to a notorious figure of Olympics sports.

Preparing to Edit the Winter Olympics

      February 9, 2018, 5:43 pm
Growing up, I was always glued to the Summer or Winter Olympics. And as a young and ambitious video nerd, I wondered what went into the incredible number of visual stories being told. Luckily I crossed paths with editor Mike Api who is currently in PyeongChang, South Korea, freelancing for NBC in his second Olympic Games. Mike’s “unit” is in the “Control C/Graphics Ingest” unit — that is, the department that cuts promos, sponsorship enhancements, and a few athletic features (or in other words, packages and profiles).

Do you edit videos? If so, you know that most of your work involves the process of triage. In medical use, this is the assignment of degrees of urgency to wounds or illnesses to decide the order of treatment of a large number of patients or casualties.
