Are you curious about the union? This blog is a continuation of my previous entry on how you get into the Motion Picture Editors Guild. I thought it would be a good idea to provide a little insight into getting into the union. What I didn’t realize is that it would devolve into an entire diatribe about the state of the Editors Guild in the larger Hollywood perspective. So I packed my first entry with information, and saved the rant for here.

Between things like camera shake and poor lighting, the videos you take with your phone, DSLR or mirrorless camera can end up blurry for any numbers of reasons. Worse yet, it’s difficult to sharpen a photo or video after the fact, and more often than not, the results don’t look great. However, with the help of AI, Adobe thinks it may have the solution for blurry photos and videos.

Yesterday marked the first day of Adobe MAX 2020, this year taking place entirely online and free to access for all. I’ve been lucky enough to be invited to cover the event the past two years and this time was no different (although obviously, from the comfort of my apartment).

Adobe MAX is here so that must mean another update to Adobe Premiere Pro. I know what you’re thinking… didn’t Adobe just have a big update? Yes, they did, the September release. With that release, we got Scene Edit Detection and some new beta stuff. This MAX release gives us more beta stuff and some early access. I guess technically this isn’t a new release of the shipping version then and more of a look at features down the road.

VIEW Conference has just announced that its 2020 Visionary Award is being presented to Industrial Light & Magic senior VFX supervisor and creative director, Dennis Muren, who will participate in his own keynote Q&A on the conference’s final day. Part of the core visual effects team that worked on the original Star Wars, Muren was at the forefront of the digital effects revolution with his groundbreaking work on The Abyss, Terminator 2: Judgment Day and Jurassic Park. At ILM, the nine-time Oscar winner continues to steer the evolution of the company while championing new effects techniques and technologies.
