Facilis Technology Demonstrates New 64bit TerraBlock at Stand 7.D05

See Extreme Multi-user Write Performance Over 8Gbit Fibre and 10Gbit Ethernet

Hudson, Mass, and Amsterdam, The Netherlands, September 10, 2010 – Facilis Technology, a leader in shared media storage technology for post-production and content creation, today announced new hardware and operating system for TerraBlock shared storage systems. The 64bit operating system, as well as high performance SAS controllers, adds to the available bandwidth for multi-stream uncompressed and 2K/4K DI workflow.

TerraBlock now supports 10Gbit Ethernet for access to Multi-user Write volumes. This more than doubles the stream count for Ethernet clients on the Facilis Shared File System network when aggregating multiple 1Gbit clients.

Key features of TerraBlock shared storage now include:

? Dynamic sharing methods of Multi-user Write (file-level) and Single-user Write (volume-level), selectable on a per-virtual volume basis

? Access to virtual volumes over 8Gbit fibre channel or 1Gbit Ethernet with 10Gbit uplink

? Avid media and project sharing through native file system emulation

? Single-user Write volumes that support up to 4K uncompressed bandwidth

"The move from an analogue to a tapeless workflow requires robust, fast, and flexible storage," said Ken Bell, MD at QuadLogic, European partners for TerraBlock. "Whether delivering uncompressed HD or DV over fibre or Ethernet to Mac and PC platforms, Facilis TerraBlock does it simply and performs as promised. With such pedigree it is an obvious choice in the broadcast and post-production market."

Additionally, to help meet the ongoing demand for low-cost storage, Facilis will be showing the T8, a new SAS direct-attached storage option. This product will feature dual-channel 3Gbit connectivity using the ATTO ExpressSAS R380 adapter, and is qualified for multi-stream HD or 2K DPX applications.

Facilis TerraBlock will be at IBC, September 9-14, stand 7.D05. TerraBlock with 64bit OS and 10Gbit Ethernet is currently shipping. For pricing and availability, please contact QuadLogic at info@quadlogic.co.uk. Visit Quad Logic Systems at the Facilis TerraBlock stand 7.D05.

      Zimmer on Widows Score

      November 21, 2018, 10:24 am
Hans Zimmer has “a strange history” with “Widows.” Early in his career he worked for composer Stanley Myers, including on the 1983 BBC miniseries that would inspire the 2018 film. “I remember thinking at the time this was a revolutionary bit of storytelling,” he recalls. It concerned “the sort of casual brutality women have to endure on a daily basis.” He felt the series could “change the way we treat women,” so when Steve McQueen approached him about scoring this reimagining, he leapt at the opportunity because “things had not gotten better.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.

Sennheiser Memory Mic: the “wireless” mic/body

      November 20, 2018, 10:01 am
The Sennheiser Memory Mic is a “wireless” mic/body recorder that auto-synchronizes audio that it records with the companion app that can shoot video. In fact, the device hardware is much better than the first version of the companion app for both Android and iOS, so Sennheiser will hopefully add the missing features to the apps. Then it could become the dream solution for today’s producers who want to to produce a Candid Camera type show. Allen Funt first created the Candid project for radio as The Candid Microphone in 1947, before launching the Candid Camera TV show in 1948. Ahead you’ll hear and watch Sennheiser Memory Mic audio/video recordings and learn what’s missing (and wrong) from the first version of the software.

Improve Your Masks with Hue, Saturation, and Lumin

      November 20, 2018, 5:48 am
Masking is one of the fundamentals of video editing, but masks used in isolation have a lot of drawbacks and limitations. The most efficient way to improve the quality of any mask is by using hue, saturation, and luminance qualifiers.

Composer Hans Zimmer and Editor Joe Walker

      November 20, 2018, 5:47 am
Widows is a different type of film for director Steve McQueen. Known for terrific dramas such as Shame, Hunger, and the Academy Award-winning 12 Years A Slave, McQueen’s films have never been about mainstream appeal. That’s about to change. Viola Davis leads the ensemble of Widows, a heist-film that includes a group of women who must complete a robbery to survive. A debt was left to them by their late husbands who did not complete a heist of their own.

      The Sound of First Man

      November 20, 2018, 5:47 am
Academy Award and Grammy-winning composer Justin Hurwitz, sound supervisor and re-recording mixer Ai-Ling Lee, sound supervisor Mildred Iatrou, re-recording mixer Frank Montaño, re-recording mixer Jon Taylor, and Academy Award-winning picture editor Tom Cross discuss how the film’s documentary look (it was filmed in Super-16mm) affected the approach to sound and music, how the sound elements contributed to the understanding of how dangerous the early space flights were, and why it was important to focus on the sound of an errant fly in the space capsule.
