Useful Tools for Monitoring your Other Tools

    September 21, 2010, 2:03 pm
If you work in post-production, you work on computers. There are a lot of things within those computers, including hard drives, RAM and the trusty Internet connection, that need monitoring if you want to get the most out of your software apps and work efficiently. iStat Menus is a useful tool that will let you take control of those under-the-hood systems and keep tabs on any number of processes that affect your work.

      VFX in The Tick

      October 2, 2018, 9:18 am
The Tick recently wrapped its first split season on Amazon Video. The series mixes tongue-in-cheek humor with the high--energy action of an almost invulnerable superhero clad in a blue tick costume. The always optimistic character, who debuted as a comic book hero in the 1980s, befriends the nebbishy Arthur, who becomes his sidekick in their quest to save the city from supervillain The Terror.

AAC test: Does your device play this file? by Alla

      October 2, 2018, 6:34 am
Apple has suggested we change from MP3 to AAC, but many people are afraid that AAC may not be playable on all current players. So I created a bonus test episode. Many people mistakenly believe that that letter A in AAC stands for Apple. That is incorrect. The AAC acronym stands for Advanced Audio Códec, without any mention of Apple in the name. Apple did not create it. Apple just likes it.

Create a Color Theme for Adobe CC

      October 2, 2018, 6:33 am
I’m working on video series about Vincent Van Gogh, and I need to create some motion graphics elements for this project — mainly an opening animation, some simple lower third titles, and a few other elements. Van Gogh was a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter known for using bold colors, so naturally, I want to sample some of these colors in my graphics. Lucky for me, Adobe has just the tools I need.

How I edited a complex feature documentary with in

      October 2, 2018, 6:33 am
I recently completed a feature-length documentary edit using Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2018 (12.1.2), and we had zero* crashes during the four week + edit. Was I shocked by this? Not at all. PPro is very stable for me, and I had no fears about stability when I jumped into this edit. It’s not the first longform documentary with a mountain of different formats and frame rates I’ve cut in PPro, and it won’t be the last.

      4 automatic audio mixers ≥US$1000 cure bleed/spi

      September 30, 2018, 6:32 am
Have you been disappointed when your audio quality drops exponentially as you add more microphones with a talk show, interview or reality, due to a phenomenon called spill, bleed or “crosstalk”? You can’t afford the time to mulitrack and fix it in post? You’ll be happy to know that there are hardware devices to solve it in real time, either truly live or live-to-drive (previously known as “live on tape”) . In BeyondPodcasting episode 10, Curtis Judd and I discuss four models from ≈US$250 to ≈US$1000.
