    The Difference Between Raw Video and Uncompressed

    If you follow Videomaker closely, you've likely seen us use the terms raw video and uncompressed video. We might say “Camera A captures uncompressed video” or “Camera B shoots raw.” Hopefully we've never said “Camera C shoots uncompressed raw video.” While they sound similar, they do mean different things and shouldn't be used interchangeably.

      Editing A Quiet Place on Mute

      In the year of populist Oscar contenders “A Star Is Born” and “Black Panther,” pundits and fans are not forgetting about John Krasinski’s horror smash hit “A Quiet Place.” The critical favorite is expected to make a showing in below-the-line sound categories, and Emily Blunt gained momentum for Best Supporting Actress after earning a SAG nomination. During a recent interview with The New York Times, Krasinski dropped a fascinating nugget of information about the making of the movie, mainly that he spent approximately five weeks editing the entire film on mute.

      Designing the Millennium Falcon VFX

      Han and Chewie are both great, but they share the screen with another serious Star Wars icon. Solo: A Star Wars Story rolled back the clocked to reveal some iconic moments from the franchise’s legacy. Chief among them was the unveiling of a retro Millennium Falcon. Industrial Light and Magic were charged with creating the new design and have now released a behind the scenes glimpse at how and why the changes were made.
