A minor update to Premiere adds ProRes RAW

      May 19, 2020, 12:31 pm
We woke up this morning to a minor update to Adobe Premiere Pro. Native support for ProRes RAW in both Premiere and Media Encoder is the big feature update of note. I think many wondered if Apple was holding ProRes RAW back from Adobe and other NLE makers but I guess not. At least not from Adobe. This makes Adobe Premiere Pro the first NLE to support both ProRes RAW and Blackmagic RAW.

Review: VEGAS Pro 17 by Oliver Peters

      May 18, 2020, 2:22 pm
If you are focused on Media Composer, Premiere Pro, or Final Cut Pro X, then it’s easy to forget that there are a number of other capable NLEs in the wild – especially for the Windows/PC platform. One of those is VEGAS Pro, which was originally developed by Sonic Foundry and came to market in 1999. At first VEGAS was a DAW, but video was quickly added, thus turning it into a competitive NLE. Over the years, the software development team moved to Sony (Sony Creative Software) and then to its new home, VEGAS Creative Software, owned by Magix, a German software company. Along with the VEGAS product line, Magix also handles the other creative apps from the Sonic Foundry/Sony family, including Acid and Sound Forge.

      May 16, 2020, 4:51 pm
There’s a lot more to making a selection in Pro Tools than just clicking and dragging with the Select Tool. Creating, moving, adjusting and extending selections make this a bigger subject than it at first appears. In this Premium Video Tutorial, Julian Rodgers looks at some of the ways selections can be created and used. Take a look and see whether you’re missing out on any useful techniques.

      May 15, 2020, 4:55 pm
It’s rare these days to come across a tool that works in an everyday video pipeline and yet sets a new precedent for what is possible. Lockdown, an After Effects plugin available via ae.scripts.com, is just such a tool. What’s more, during the shutdown (currently until the end of May) the developer is licensing it free for full use.
