  • What IS the Big Deal With FCP - A Response

What IS the Big Deal With FCP - A Response

    November 1, 2010, 11:13 am
Recently a blog post from Neil Sadwelkar titled "What’s the big deal about FCP" made the rounds of the post people on Twitter. It’s an evaluation of Final Cut Pro, mainly comparing it to Avid Media Composer. This is obviously nothing new, there are probably hundreds of such blog posts around the net, but this one was a little special simply because of it’s massive wrongness... Neil doesn’t seem to be approving comments on his blog post, so I thought I’d post my points in response here.

For this piece, we’ll take a look at using the new Ultra Keyer in Premiere Pro with some Canon 7D footage. What’s great about this is the fact that the green screen was unevenly lit, and with minimal effort, I’m able to pull a rather impressive key, literally in seconds.

Ever set up your project to work in 16 or 32-bit float, and you then apply an effect, only to get into the effects window to find that the effect only supports 8-bit? Annoying isn’t it? Wouldn’t you love to know what bit depth the effect supports before you drop it onto your clip? Well, now you can!

What would you want in FCP8

      May 20, 2010, 4:45 pm
After all this hype that has been circulating about FCP being dumbed down for only the prosumer and not the professional video editor, what will FCP have to offer you in order to stay as popular as it is? Whether people switch to Avid or even Premiere (watching another production company nearby use the CS5 AE to Premiere to AE features are pretty cool) is another question on its own...

Sorry for the lack of updates in a while but work has kept myself and Nate very busy and away from the site. Updates and news for now is the site will be going through a new look and update shortly so be on the look out for that . On the RED front Epic/Tattoo program should be going into full swing shortly and we should see some footage coming out testers in the not to distant future.
