Reducing Noise in Apple Final Cut Pro

    November 16, 2010, 10:03 am
A funny thing happened on the way to this episode of Final Cut Pro Insider. As you may recall, the last episode detailed the results of an extensive visit to iTunes, where I downloaded and analyzed about 50 files, and presented strategies for producing podcasts for the increasingly diverse range of iDevices. This episode was going to cover device presets in Apple Compressor, Sorenson Media Squeeze, and Telestream Episode. I hope this doesn't cause any riots in the heartland, but I'm going to...

      Canon 5D Avid FCP Roundtrip

No, this isn’t the 5D workflow article that you’ve been waiting for. That’s still coming in another couple of weeks. In the meantime, I’ve started on another Canon 5D commercial. This time I’m cutting the project in Avid Media Composer instead of Final Cut Pro. There are a number of reasons, including some recent stability issues I’ve had with FCP. In addition, the creative treatment calls for some nice speed ramp effects.

      Update on FCP Job Cuts

      February 19, 2010, 9:25 am
Apple has reportedly laid off 40 of its Final Cut employees, as earlier reported by AE Portal News. The cuts were apparently focused on remote teams based in the Los Angeles and Austin areas. Final Cut Studio is Apple’s flagship product for professional moving image editing and more. Naturally it also fields technologies marshaled within Apple’s Photoshop-killer, Aperture **.

      Video Editing Transitions

      February 19, 2010, 9:24 am
In digital editing, everything is a transition. The cut, the dissolve, the wipe, they are all transitions. A sequence could be a transition. A pan is a transition. A person walking across the screen could be a transition. Anything that advances your story, takes the viewer to another location, time, or space is a transition.
