I recently finished a TV movie that was shot on Red and Canon 5D, cut in Media Composer 5, conformed in Smoke, and timed from the original raw R3D files in Lustre. None of that is particularly unusual these days (though timing from the R3Ds is still rare in television). But there seem to be a whole lot of people who are confused about these processes. If you’re among them, then maybe the following will help you make sense of it.

Eric Zumbrunnen, film editor and longtime Spike Jonze collaborator, has died at age 52 following a battle with cancer. The editor worked on every Spike Jonze feature, either by himself or with co-editor Jeff Buchanan, and he won the ACE Award for Best Edited Feature Film for “Being John Malkovich.”

Eric Zumbrunnen, an ACE Award-winning film editor who worked on several Spike Jonze films including Being John Malkovich and Best Picture Oscar nominee Her, has died. He was 52. His publicist Jason Kasperski told Deadline that Zumbrunnen died August 1 of cancer.
