Red Giant Colorista II Review

March 14, 2011, 7:40 am
Red Giant was gracious enough to allow me to test-drive Colorista II. Building and improving on the original in every way, Colorista II is ac color grading plug-in for Final Cut Pro users. Colorista II also supports Adobe After Effects and Premier.

Over the past couple of weeks the good folks over at Red Giant have graciously given me the opportunity to test drive Magic Bullet Grinder. The applications allows you to batch convert files from DSLRs such as the Canon 5D and Canon 7D.

Lightworks Review

February 28, 2011, 8:44 am
During the past few weeks I have been testing out EditShare’s beta of Lightworks. An NLE that has recently received a lot of attention, due to its use on the Oscar winning film "The King’s Speech", and mainly because it’s free. However it has also been used on other films such as Pulp Fiction, The Departed, Shutter Island, and Centurion.

Lightworks recently became an open source NLE that improves upon itself with user feedback with each version release. Lightworks boasts some fantastic format support such as QuickTime, MXF, AVI, RED, Avid DNxHd, and Apple Pro Res, as well as many others.

Edius 6 Review

January 31, 2011, 9:27 am
During the past few weeks, I have been testing out and "kicking the tires", on Grass Valley’s Edius 6. Edius was originally created by Canopus, and was bought out by Grass Valley. They have continued to improve upon its structure providing a large selection of codec support. Before I dive into my review, I would like to thank Grass Valley for graciously providing me with this copy of Edius 6.

Have you ever had one of those days?

January 17, 2011, 9:38 am
This previous week, I was busy working with my DP on a pilot. He was busy shooting on various flash based media from XDCAM Blu Rays, XDCAM EX SxS, and SD cards off the GoPro cams. However, before I even began the edit, I sat down with my DP to discuss workflows to reduce confusion in post. This is something that I believe is crucial if given the opportunity.
