While working on a job this week I had tons of shots to log and organize. While doing this I realized how much I was pasting the same words over and over and over and over. No problem, I mapped my floating keyboard key F13 to paste. That meant I didn’t have to keep hitting the two key combination of command + v over and over again. You wouldn’t think it would make that much difference but it does. It reminded me of an old 2008 Editblog post: My Friend F13.

I got your attention didn’t I? So what’s dirty editing? I don’t think there is an actual term coined for what I’m about to talk about. I’ve heard it referred to as checker-boarding but I’m still not quite sure that grasps the concept enough. So I’m going to call it dirty editing.

I love Macs. They’re like my car. I put the key in the ignition, turn it, and it starts. I don’t need to hunt down drivers for all the components that come with it when it arrives from Apple, because Apple takes care of all that.

The editing world has become a strange place. For professional editing applications, we have Apple and Adobe with their flagship bundles Final Cut Studio 3 and Creative Suite 5 respectively (and yes, there is Vegas, but I do not consider it to be a professional editing application as none of the major broadcasters are editing with it), and then there is Avid, with their flagship editing application, Media Composer. Avid, and Media Composer, have been around a long time.
