Marley & Me: Editing the World’s Worst Dog

    December 29, 2008, 8:30 pm
On the surface, Marley & Me (being released Christmas Day by Fox 2000 Pictures) is a wacky comedy about the world’s worst dog, but ultimately it’s a thoughtful journey through life. Based on the best-selling memoir by John Grogan, Marley & Me follows John (Owen Wilson), his wife Jenny (Jennifer Aniston) and their relationship with a rambunctious golden lab named Marley. In a story spanning 15 years, the film wrestles with such themes as marriage, children, career and mortality.

Da 5 Bloods Composer Terence Blanchard on That Ope

      June 15, 2020, 4:56 pm
Composer and musician Terence Blanchard is synonymous with the work of Spike Lee. Starting with 1991’s Jungle Fever, Blanchard has composed the score for almost every single Spike Lee joint, and the musician’s work is as striking and diverse as Lee’s films. Blanchard received his first-ever Oscar nomination for his work on Lee’s 2018 film BlacKkKlansman (which also scored Lee’s first-ever competitive Oscar win for Best Adapted Screenplay), and one would think in following up that incredibly well-received film that Lee would maybe take a break or at least take it easy. Instead, he made Da 5 Bloods—an ambitious and confrontational film about the Vietnam War, among other things—as quickly as possible.

When Batman Forever was released a quarter-century ago, it seemed to feature effects work from just about every shop then around (see the list here). A wide variety of VFX is seen in the film, from matte paintings, to digital characters, to extensive models and miniatures.

Episode 250 - How to Reach Busy People

      June 12, 2020, 1:25 pm
It is so critical to know when you are reaching out to people who are extremely busy. If you put yourself in the other person’s shoes when you communicate with them — and understand how they’re going to react — that’s worth its weight in gold. And it helps you communicate better with them, knowing what their needs and problems are.

The Mandalorian VFX Reel Reveals CG Shots, Charact

      June 11, 2020, 4:54 pm
Much of the focus on the making of The Mandalorian has been on the groundbreaking virtual set technology referred to as The Volume, or StageCraft, as it’s also been referred to by industry professionals. However, there’s still a lot of traditional visual effects work that went into bringing the first season of the live-action Star Wars series to life. A new The Mandalorian VFX reel was recently posted online by one of the visual effects studios who worked on the series and it shows which shots had fully digital characters, creatures, droids, environments and more.
