      Schoonmaker sculpts ‘Silence’

      January 23, 2017, 6:09 pm
The legendary editor is sitting in the Midtown Manhattan office where she cut Scorsese’s latest, his deeply felt spiritual epic about Jesuit priests in feudal Japan. Schoonmaker sits in between her monitors and those for Scorsese, added about a year ago so he could sit even closer to Schoonmaker while they worked. It makes for a jumble of screens, especially when the one devoted to Turner Classic movies is factored in. “This used to be quite a beautiful room,” Schoonmaker says with only mild regret.

      Oscar Cliffhanger: ACE Awards contenders

      January 23, 2017, 8:00 am
Tom Cross won the Oscar for Best Film Editing two years ago for Whiplash” and collaborates again with that film’s writer/director Damien Chazelle on “La La Land.” Cross is heavily favored to win a bookend Academy Award for this return engagement. That’s no surprise, given the ingenious way he which he edits the dance routines throughout the film and, in particular, the closing sequence. Cross has been nominated in the Comedy/Musical category at the ACE Eddies as well as at the BAFTAs.

CG Garage #106 | Kevin Mack – Shape Space VR

      January 23, 2017, 7:59 am
Kevin Mack’s skill lies in applying scientific theory to three dimensional art and visual effects. January 23, 2017, 7:59 am
These are 10 of the most important edits that have inspired me. It's not an all-time list. When I say "edit", I mean a single transition or a montage in a scene or sequence, not the editing of a film as a whole.
