Blackmagic Design Releases DaVinci Resolve 14.1

      November 14, 2017, 1:33 pm
Alright, Alright, Alright, Blackmagic Design has released the latest version of the color grading and editing software DaVinci Resolve. Firmware 14.1 is officially available to download and install, but WAIT! Do not install it just yet. This update requires a few new processes to get it correct. Do not do as I did, which was update my Mac OS and then update my DaVinci Resolve. Nope, did not work. Blackmagic Design needs all DaVinci Resolve Studio users to update their PostgreSQL server BEFORE updating their computer’s operating system.

2018 VFX Oscar Predictions, And The Films That Mig

      November 14, 2017, 1:33 pm
Each year it gets harder and harder to predict who might be in the final contention for the visual effects Oscar, let alone which films might make the final five. This year that’s partly because of the incredibly strong showing of visual effects over 2017, and because in recent years the final list often includes a few surprise outsiders.

Thor Ragnarok Editor Zene Baker on Deleted Scenes

      November 14, 2017, 10:17 am
On Thor: Ragnarok, editors Zene Baker and Joel Negron worked with director Taika Waititi to breathe a new and undeniably hilarious life into the franchise’s third installment. In the film, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) finds himself having to get back to Asgard to stop the destruction of his homeworld and the end of civilization there, at the hands of the scarily powerful Hela (Cate Blanchett). Utilizing a refreshing level of humor and fun throughout the story, Thor must get his duplicitous adopted brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston), the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) and the fierce warrior Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) all fighting on the same side, if they’re even going to have a chance at being victorious.

During our recent webcam chat (watch the exclusive video above), “The Shape of Water” film editor Sidney Wolinsky reveals, I thought it could be interesting, but it looks like a tall order to really pull this off” about reading the script initially. This Cold War era drama directed and co-written by Guillermo Del Toro centers on a mute woman (Sally Hawkins) working as a janitor in a top-secret government lab. She meets and falls in love with a giant fish man (Doug Jones) and helps him escape before he can be dissected by American scientists or Russian spies. The film also stars Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins, Octavia Spencer, and Michael Stuhlbarg.
