Connie Siu is the Writer and Director of short film Jeffrey. She holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, graduated cum laude from SFSU with a BA in Fine Art, and attended UCLA’s Producers Workshop Program. Connie is the former Chairman and co-founder of the San Francisco Chapter of Siggraph, the former Vice-Chair of the U.S. Sports Film Festival, and served as Executive Director of the Pre-Visualization Society.

I recently had the chance to ask Territory Studio about their visual effects work for Mank, which involved the re-creation of Wilshire Blvd from the 1930s. Like those shots, so much of Mank’s VFX work was invisible, involving subtle augmentations to tell the period story.

In Pixar’s upcoming Soul, directed by Pete Docter, one of the challenges the animation studio faced was depicting its main character Joe (Jamie Foxx) playing the piano, believably. That is, animating his fingers to hit the correct keys for the music he was playing.

To summarize, in Maya 2020.4, Bifrost capabilities expanded and increased. In addition, Maya curves can now be dragged and dropped directly into Bifrost graphs and converted into Bifrost strands. Bifrost graphs now include bifrostGraphShapes.

Working with director Chris Columbus, Weta Digital led an extensive effort to bring the world of Netflix’s The Christmas Chronicles 2 to life. The film tells the story of how once-elf-now-human character Belsnickel (Julian Dennison) threatens to cancel Christmas, and how Santa Claus (Kurt Russell) and Mrs. Claus (Goldie Hawn) and their helpful elves and new-found human friends look to save the day.

For Director David Fincher's latest film Mank — now available on Netflix — he's teamed up once again with his long-time collaborator, supervising sound editor Ren Klyce. Here, Klyce shares details on creating an 'old Hollywood' feel by working in mono, adding patina layers of analog equipment hiss and natural 'theater' reverb, and creating a special filter modeled after the original Citizen Kane.
