So, it’s been a while since I’ve started writing this series, so I should probably point out that the point here is to simply locate those cool tips and techniques that are easily found in the user manual – if you actually chose to read it. But this is much easier – at least for you – because I’ve sifted out most of the "duh" stuff and just delivered the tips that you might have not heard before.

It’s one of the questions I get asked more often than most: How much drive space do I need to hold [insert media format and time here]? At one point I tried to keep some rough numbers in my head, as in way back when DV25 was about the only format and resolution to worry about...

Seems like just yesterday that I finished writing about collaboration (it wasn’t, it was actually two days ago) and I’ve just watched Daisy Whitney’s latest episode of New Media Minute which is all about collaboration. (Daisy is one of the most informed, entertaining, correspondents on the media area, hosting This Week In Media as well as writing for a slew of magazines and web sites.).

While news from the exhibition floor of SIGGRAPH was a little ho-hum, there were a number of excellent panels and presentations upstairs at the convention. One of the most popular was a full day on stereo 3D and how filmmakers are trying to move away from stereo as a gimmick towards it being a true cinema language, just like color and sound. Representatives from Sony, Pixar and Dreamworks discussed the present challenges and strategies, as well as the future of 3D as a medium.
