So you have a bunch of subtitles or lower thirds to do. They all look the same, except for the contents. You’re not seriously considering doing them all by hand in Title Tool, are you?

I'm working on a new feature documentary about a Tibetan refugee born in exile, turned activist and heavy metal musician. The title is catchy, Journey of a Dream, and so far the editing, a journey of its own, has also been a dream.

Apple’s Final Cut Pro is entirely built upon their Quicktime core. So for Final Cut Pro to support a given video format it needs to have a Quicktime codec for that format. That means the FCP development team have to implement common codecs in Quicktime for FCP support.

Let’s be honest here .... there’s no shortage of one click film-look style emulation plug-ins available for Final Cut Pro. The biggies Magic Bullet Looks and Nattress Film Effects come to mind. Now we can add another one to the list: FxAndy.

A client will one day call you late into a quiet evening saying they can't play the QuickTime files you've sent them. Since they need them in HD and regular DVD's can't (technically unless you mix HD-DVD with some prestidigitation) do HD content you need to send them something they can use...NOW! THE PRESENTATION IS IN 10 HOURS ZOMG!!!1!!1!

Well, it turns out that I didn’t do an Avid online of an FCP offline, it was an FCP online of an FCP online, converted to Avid for final delivery. Well, I DID do one...I used Automatic Duck to convert the FCP sequence to an Avid sequence and then I recaptured. But went it came time to color correct,

Pegasus had been in development for years. The concept at its inception was brilliant; super-computer hardware (we had a team of engineers designing custom silicon - we even named the chips after the engineers) coupled with elegant software. It was a game changer, a category creator. And that, perhaps, was one of the first signs of trouble.
