Kicking off the 2011 AiR program on February 10, Mewshop welcomes Bobbie O'Steen, Emmy-nominated film editor and critically acclaimed author. Following her extensive work in the cutting room, Bobbie wrote Cut to the Chase, based on interviews with her late husband and colleague, legendary film editor Sam O'Steen. This fascinating book takes the reader behind the scenes of some of the most influential movies in motion picture history, including "The Graduate" and "Chinatown."

At the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, Jen Lame was having the kind of moment that most filmmakers wait their entire careers for. After lobbying hard to work as an editor on Kenneth Lonergan’s latest drama “Manchester By the Sea,” standing ovations awaited the film she and the writer/director had spent so much time at the editing bay scrutinizing, and as if that weren’t enough, people couldn’t stop talking about “Christine,” the film that her husband Craig Shilowich spent the off-hours writing for years to perfect. It was the kind of buzz that would follow the couple back home to New York, for better or worse.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the list of twenty films in the running for the Visual Effects Oscar. The Visual Effects Branch will determine which ten films proceed to the bake off. Here is the press release.

Last year’s Best Editing field included “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” but this decade that blockbuster and “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” are the only two nominees that were not also Best Picture nominees.
