In order to edit well you need to watch & know your footage so that you can assemble it into a coherent film. All the automation & metadata in the world don't change that. It has been this way for over 100 years. So I ask, what are editing systems missing that prevent that from happening?

Although primarily a documentary editor Lindi Harrison has worked across some very challenging projects, including large website developments, Museum exhibitions and even the hugely ambitious 12 screen Sydney Olympic Games Presentation. Restoration

      November 3, 2008, 6:42 pm
Now that the dust has cleared and we will be seeing lots of popular movie titles on Blu-ray discs for our home entertainment, there are lots of directors and DPs stopping in at film restoration shops to see how their work looks all cleaned up, in 1080p HD and with their deleted scenes reinstated. Eric Poydar (the Editor) Meets Larry (the Actor)

      October 30, 2008, 6:36 pm
Archival footage, scenes differing in aspect ratio, a movie that tiptoes the line between documentary and fiction; for even the most established editor, these things could become a real headache in the cutting room. But for Eric Poydar, writer-director-editor of the faux-documentary Larry (the Actor), the challenge of seamlessly interweaving different forms of footage into a present day narrative about Larry (Lionel Mark Smith), an actor on the verge of giving up his livelihood, was met with...
