While the press always has taken a keen interest in Avid's announcements and presentations at NAB, this year Avid has been especially proud to host the news crew from the Hank Greenspun School of Journalism and Media Studies at UNLV, who have been covering the show for the university's daily news broadcast, Studio G.

Today is the day! My new book, Film Editing: Great Cuts Every Filmmaker and Movie Lover Must Know is now officially out. It was a pleasure to write and I hope you will enjoy it. You can read all about it and where to find it on this site so here I’ll write about the journey behind it.

Well darn it all to heck, I can’t make it to Amsterdam this year. I didn’t last year either...but the year I did go...man, I had fun. Been trying to get back but too many things conspire against that. Not only is the city a blask, but I get to meet a whole lot of industry people at IBC, and a whole lot in my area at the Final Cut Pro User Group Supermeets.

For two days in mid-September, the 3-D Entertainment Summit was held in Hollywood with various motion picture, television, gaming and Internet professionals in attendance to consider the evolving market and technologies for stereoscopic motion pictures. Event sponsors consisted of Variety, the Entertainment Technology Center (ETC), Unicomm, Real D and Sony, among others.

In his 19 years as a television picture editor, Ron Volk, A.C.E. has become a bit of an expert on Grammer—Kelsey Grammer, that is. Five years after completing the last of 129 episodes of Frazier, Volk has re-teamed with Grammer on Hank, a new sitcom from ABC that premieres on Wednesday, Sept. 30.
